As part of the #InfluencerSpeaks series, we bring you the interviews with top influencers across India. This week, we are featuring Rumana Nazarali, a social media influencer. Here’s the transcript of her interview:

Rumana-Speaks

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your blog/online presence

I’m Rumana from Bangalore and I am a social media influencer. I use both Twitter and blogs to express my views. I have been using twitter for over seven years and been actively participating with brands for nearly four years and helped brands promote their content individually or with my team of influencers.

How did you get started online? How has the journey been?

I came on twitter to share my thoughts on everything without people judging me. With this, I started my views on brands, which influenced people and from then brands have started to approach me. My thoughts got value on twitter.

What type of content do you create?

I normally write on travel, food and lifestyle and anything related to these topics. I also write on topics, which interest me like TV series, Bollywood and Hollywood movies. Twitter is a space where I can write my thoughts on anything I would like to share with the world.

Tell us something about the most interesting projects you have engaged with.

One of the most interesting projects I have worked is Oreo. The brand had graffiti artists paint the walls of flyovers in Bangalore. As influencers, we took pictures on them and posted it on Twitter.

Which brands have you associated with in the past?

I have worked with brands such as Air Asia, Oreo, Cadbury, Amazon and Burger King to name a few.

Where do you see opportunities and challenges in being an online Influencer?

To speak of challenges, I find it difficult to convince brands on the way content should be posted from my handle. I would rather speak in my tone rather than the way a brand would like it to. Opportunities have been great as I have been associated with many brands closely. I personally endorse brands only because I like it.

Any thoughts or tips to share with your fellow Bloggers and Influencers?

Like me I would advise people to join social media with the intention of sharing thoughts and views rather than making every brand look pompous.
